Dooley House in Abingdon, Virginia Moved 250′

The Hiram Dooley House in Abingdon, Virginia moved 250 feet today from the plot of ground where it was built before the Civil War to an empty lot where it will begin a new era. The church that owned the house planned to demolish it, as it was too expensive to maintain the building and they needed the ground it sat on for other purposes. Local community members started a petition to save the 172-year-old house, working with the church to relocate it instead.
