Most people never expect to see a brick house rolling across open fields, but that’s what happened in East Earl, PA, when a circa-1950s home began its nearly mile-long journey to a new property. Wolfe House & Building Movers relocated the 47’x50’ structure from Reading Road to Conestoga Creek Road, a distance totaling 4,900 feet and requiring specialized equipment and careful execution.
After an attached garage was removed, Wolfe began onsite work by placing steel beams under the house and using a Buckingham unified jacking system to lift it from its foundation. Once elevated, Wolfe installed the Buckingham Power Dolly System under the steel beams, which provided the drive power and precision steering needed for the move.
The route included several hundred feet of roadway travel before cutting through open field, requiring the dollies to track over ridges, adjust to shifting grade levels, and maneuver multiple turns with accuracy. With the guidance of Wolfe’s operator and crew, the house was driven safely over the terrain, demonstrating the capability of the Buckingham dollies to maintain level transport across varied surfaces.
At the new site, the home was positioned 11′ above the new footers, where it will remain supported while the foundation is installed.
The successful relocation allows the home to be preserved and repurposed on a scenic property, giving the structure a new beginning while making full use of the land’s potential.
