Rigging/Heavy Hauling

Deltaville, VA / September 2019

Wolfe House & Building Mover, LLC’s latest historic move involved the USS Sequoia in Deltaville, VA. The Sequoia, known by some as “America’s Most Famous Boat,” served several US Presidents for business and leisure events, spanning administrations from Herbert Hoover to James Carter until it was auctioned off in 1977. John F. Kennedy spent his last birthday on board the Sequoia, Richard Nixon spent an evening on the Sequoia before his resignation, and Lyndon B. Johnson made several important decisions regarding the Vietnam War aboard the Sequoia. After multiple sales and years of legal battles, restoration of the Sequoia is now a reality, and it is being transported to a new location in Maine for the work. Wolfe worked with the shipyard in Deltaville, Virginia, to load the yacht onto an inland barge and take it to a bulkhead in Cambridge, Maryland. From there, the Sequoia will be loaded onto an ocean barge and transported up the coast to Maine where the restoration process will begin. The 104′ long vessel weighed in at 182,000 lbs and was moved on and off the barge using the remote-controlled Buckingham Hydraulic Power Dolly System.
