Failing foundation replacement is a common reason why homeowners call Wolfe House Movers, especially in Massachusetts and Connecticut where pyrrhotite-contaminated concrete has compromised the structural integrity of hundreds of homes. For this two-story, 49’ x 44’ frame residence in Warren, Massachusetts, Wolfe’s team safely lifted and supported the home while the damaged foundation was removed and the new one constructed.
The crew began by building crib piles, installing lifting steel through openings cut in the existing foundation, and setting crib jacks under the house. They used a Buckingham unified jacking machine to lift the house with its garage and fireplace to its temporary elevation of 7 feet.
With the house resting securely on cribbing, the contractors had full access to remove the failing foundation and construct the new one, including beam pockets for the lifting steel to recess during set-down. When the new foundation was complete, Wolfe returned, lowered the house back down to its final elevation on the new foundation walls, and removed the steel beams. The contractor then filled the beam pockets, completing the new foundation system.
