Wolfe House Movers relocated this beachfront home in Gold Beach, Oregon, moving it 180 feet back from the eroding cliff edge. Ongoing coastal erosion had left the 64′ x 78′ two-story home just 15 feet from the crumbling bluff above the Pacific Ocean. Local real estate agents considered the home unsellable, and the previous owner spent three years trying to find a buyer.

Determined to preserve the beautiful 4,000-square-foot home rather than lose it to the ocean, the new homeowner partnered with Wolfe House and Building Movers, the county, and a local structural engineer to develop a safe, permanent relocation plan. Wolfe’s crew excavated under the foundation to insert steel support beams. After the steel was installed, we placed jacks under the steel to securely lift the 210-ton home. We laid additional steel beams and cribbing to create a stable track connecting the existing location to the new foundation 180 feet inland.

On the morning of the move, neighbors and locals gathered to watch the house make its journey away from the coastline. Using our hydraulic slide system with XY skates and push rams, Wolfe rolled the house across the steel beams and lowered it precisely onto the new foundation.

Many Oregon coast homeowners face the challenge of coastal erosion, which threatens both structures and the land beneath them. This successful house relocation protected a valuable oceanfront home from ongoing cliff erosion while preserving the homeowner’s investment.
