Wolfe House Movers of Oregon Relocates Three Cabins in the Rocky Mountains

In this long-distance structural relocation project in the Rocky Mountains, Wolfe House Movers of Oregon transported three log cabins over 72 miles from Alamosa, Colorado, to their new sites in Creede.

The cabins, which measured 25′ x 35′, 19′ x 43′, and 19′ x 28′,  were model cabins that the new owners planned to repurpose — living in one as their full‑time residence while using the other two as vacation rentals. The challenge was transporting them from their original location over mountainous roads to the new site, which lay more than 70 miles away through the Rockies.

To minimize the cost of lifting overhead wires along the route, Wolfe designed a custom low-profile trailer equipped with Buckingham crab steer dollies to transport the cabins. The crew lifted the cabins, secured them, and moved them, one at a time, to their new locations. After staging them beside their new foundations, Wolfe set them in place using a slide beam and toe jack system.

Through adapting custom equipment to the project specifications, Wolfe’s team was able to safely and efficiently meet the client’s objectives for repurposing the buildings while mitigating the obstacles typically associated with long-distance moves. Once positioned on their new foundations, the cabins were ready for their next chapter as a full‑time residence and vacation rentals.
